FASTAX
The FASTAX Study Guide is a CD-ROM that contains questions and answers from earlier Special Enrollment (EA) Examinations administered by the IRS and questions and answers generated by FASTAX from the new list of topics. Each is accompanied by an explanation of the answer and a reference to an IRS publication or the Internal Revenue Code.
There are also a number of text files on:
• liquidations and redemptions
• preparer penalties
• trusts and estates
• as well as tips for taking the examination.
There are three ways to navigate the guide:
If you choose a block (A-D) and part (1-3), you can simulate actual exam conditions by answering questions in order and let the computer keep track of your score. Or you can read a question, choose an answer and get immediate feedback by seeing the correct answer and the explanation. You can interrupt a session and resume at a later time or begin a new session at any time.
Individual questions or groups of questions can be printed for study in the conventional manner if you wish. You can also 'print' the questions and answers to a text file. This text file can be opened in your word processor and manipulated as you choose. You can even make a single large file with all four years (about 3Mb) and use the "find" feature of the word processor to search for key words, phrases, or topics. Try this with a 400 page manual!!
If you choose one of more than forty available topics, you will be presented with all of the questions in a particular year and part that are related to that topic.
New for 2008 is a forum where FASTAX users can ask questions or make comments as well as sign up for periodic email updates and new questions generated by FASTAX. Users are truly members of a "community" dedicated to their success on the SEE.
You can simulate actual examination conditions and learn your score on each part. Or you can read a question, select an answer, and see the correct answer and explanation at once for immediate feedback. Your score is still available as well. A powerful feature of the FASTAX Study Guide is the capability of selecting one of more than forty topic areas and seeing all of the questions relating to that topic in succession. If you'd like something on paper, you can also print individual or groups of questions for further study.
The computer program is easily installed on the hard disk of your PC-compatible computer
For each question and answer, there is a brief explanation (with the calculation, when appropriate) and a reference to an IRS publication, regulation or section of the Internal Revenue code that contains additional information.
You can interrupt a session and resume at a later time or begin a new session and resume at a later time or begin a new session when you return.
In addition to the questions and answers, there are text files on liquidations and redemptions, trusts and estates, penalties, and strategies for taking the exam. These can be read on the screen or printed on your printer. Individual questions or groups of questions can also be printed.
Just as there is no way to lose weight without effort, there's no way to pass the EAexam without serious study. I am firmly convinced that if you know the answers to past exam questions and know why they are right, you'll pass all four parts of the exam with flying colors. FASTAX will help you focus your effort on doing just that.
